Description of the research area

The transport sector is facing significant sustainability challenges. Knowledge about how society and various international, national and local market actors reason and interact with one another in creating sustainable transport systems is of key importance in addressing the challenges ahead, in particular those that relate to sustainable development and traffic safety. One key area of research in transport science is how scientific knowledge is used in policy making and how policy, innovation and implementation processes can be fine-tuned to achieve transport policy goals more effectively and efficiently. The advertised position concerns applied philosophical research in the areas of transport policy and traffic safety. It includes theoretical as well as empirical research into how decisions are made by various actors in the transport policy area. The project will generate improved theoretical knowledge about goal-setting and implementation as well as improved knowledge about how values and empirical research results are translated into action in this policy area.
