Postdoctoral Fellow (2 positions)

Two (2) open positions as Postdoctoral Fellow are available at the Faculty of Medicine for a period of three (3) years, starting 1 February 2018.


The positions will be affiliated with the department the project naturally fallsunder. The successful candidate will be appointed for a period of three (3) years in fulltime (100%) position. Up to 25% of the position will be comprised of mandatory work at the department, or at the faculty`s Medical Student Research Program, or at the general research course MEDMET for PhD-candidates. The teaching is usually in Norwegian, but in English for the PhD-candidates. The Postdoctoral Fellow must be fluent in oral and written English.


Evaluation of applicants


Applicants are evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • ·    Applicant: The applicant’s competence, grades and relevant professional activity
  • ·    Project: The scientific value of the project in addition to its feasibility within the framework of a postdoctoral fellowship.
  • ·    Research environment: The research environment’s ability to develop the candidate, national and international specialist networks, relevant publication activity. Interdisciplinary projects connected to strong research environments will be emphasized in the evaluation process.

Applicants must have completed a Norwegian PhD or equivalent foreign education, or have submitted their doctoral dissertation for evaluation within the closing date of the application. It is a condition for appointment that the dissertation is approved.


We can offer;


–     Salary level 57 (code 1352/pay framework 24.1), with a degree in Medicine or Dentistry level 59, with a medical specialization level 61, on the government salary scale. Further promotion will be after service seniority in the position. A pension contribute of 2% will be deducted and deposited to the state pension scheme.

–     A good pension scheme in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

Part-time 50% position

It is possible to combine a part-time (50 %) postdoctoral fellowship with other relevant work, also part-time (50%).The total employment period for the combined position is six (6) years. This must be informed of in the application and approved by both employers within starting date.

About postdoctoral fellowships


The purpose of the position is the building of competence by means of further development of research work to the extent ofa higher level than what is possible within an ordinary PhD programi s reached.The main goal of the position is to qualify the successful candidate for professional top positions.


It is agoalthatthe employmentperiod iscarried out asacontinuousresearchprogram. Hence,leaves ofabsence forotherpurposesthanthose laid downbylaware normally notgranted.


Applicants must present proposals for projects for the qualifying work. The projectd escription must also include a work plan. It is a condition that the successful candidate completes the project during the employment period.


The project description and workplan must be included as a part of (attachment to) the employment contract, and must include the name of the person that is required to be the successful candidate’s mentor (professionaladvisor).


Postdoctoral fellowships are fixed term positions. You cannot be employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than one fixed term period at the same institution. Also, you cannot be employed in a postdoctoral position if you have previously held this type of position at a different institution in the region.


The fixed term period for the position is three years, with the possibility for an extension of the period up to four years if a research-related stay abroad shallbe included in the employment period.
