Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant (part-time) to join a project exploring the effect of co-speech gestures on enhancing the empathic skills of healthy adults. The post is funded by a British Academy research grant (Ref: SG1700088) awarded to Dr Paraskevi Argyriou, and will be held at the Division of Neuroscience and Experimental Psychology, University of Manchester, UK. Dr Argyriou’s recent studies have looked at the beneficial effect that co-speech gestures have on cognition (e.g., language production and comprehension). This project will extend this work in social cognition (e.g., empathy).

You will carry out a range of duties, including recruiting participants for studies, running experimental tasks, entering data, and assisting with data analysis. You should have an excellent academic record, be very reliable and well organised, and be able to collect high quality data. You must also have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, as well as experience of using Word, Excel, SPSS and experimental research tools (e.g., E-Prime, PsychoPy). Previous experience of running research studies on gestures and/or social cognition is highly desirable.

The expected start date for this position is 01/12/2017 and is tenable for 8 months on a part-time basis (0.26FTE).
