The Directories Team

This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of the UK’s largest universities and help deliver the University of Manchester’s vision to be a world leading university by 2020.

To support this aim, IT Services has established an ambitious strategic plan that will allow us to further develop our services and become more agile and responsive to the needs of the University.

Supporting the delivery of this vision will be the authentication, directory and identity management services managed and developed by Directory Services.

You will be working in a team of 8 to provide identity and directory services to over 50,000 students and staff.

This role

IT Services are looking for an experienced Active Directory/Windows server system administrator to be a part of our Directories Team, to assist with the management, maintenance, and configuration and troubleshooting of directories and account lifecycle management/registration services. Whilst the role is focussed on Active Directory management and support, the successful applicant will also gain exposure to other directory technologies under the NetIQ suite of products.

You will be expected to be proficient in Active Directory management and BAU support and be familiar with federated authentication services and enterprise level IT identity lifecycle management.

Specific Role Requirements

In addition to the Person Specification criteria detailed in this document the successful applicant must have the following:-

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of managing, maintaining, configuring and troubleshooting Active Directory within an enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience of managing Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 in support of directory provision.
  • Knowledge and experience of enterprise level IT identity lifecycle management and associated best practice
  • Familiarity with federated authentication and ADFS.

Additional desirable skills/knowledge:

  • Experience of either NetIQ edirectory, NetIQ IDM, or OpenLDAP.
  • Experience of integrating identity and authentication with Microsoft cloud service.
