£29799 to £38833 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Applications are invited for the above post based at The Royal Derby Hospital Centre, Derby in the School of Medicine, Division of Medical Sciences and Graduate Entry Medicine.  The Division is responsible for three successful programmes of education to over 400 students.

The primary purpose of the role will be to undertake teaching and provide advice as a member of a teaching team delivering social and psychological sciences, and ethics teaching within 3 established programmes of study in the Division of Medical Sciences and Graduate Entry Medicine at the Royal Derby Hospital Centre. The post holder will also help to develop new module and course proposals and may contribute to curriculum development in the Division.

The successful candidate will have specific responsibility for identifying the learning needs of students in psychosocial and ethical topics and ensure that the content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives of the Graduate Entry Medicine (A101), BSc in Medical Physiology and Therapeutics (B121) and Medicine with a Foundation Year (A108) courses. In addition the role holder will contribute to the convening and delivery of the final year BSc module on personal and professional development. They will also contribute extensively to facilitation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) on the GEM course. The role holder will also be involved in the development of new teaching and assessment practices and/or developing systematic methods for evaluating and disseminating these practices within the Faculty/School/Division.

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in relevant subject area or the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information are essential. Candidates must have the analytical ability to facilitate conceptual thinking, innovation and creativity; be able to creatively apply relevant approaches to teaching and learning support; to assess and organise and effectively deploy resource requirements. They must be able to build relationships and collaborate with others, both internally and externally and be willing to adopt the Ethos and Principles of the School of Medicine. Previous experience of teaching in the form of lectures/practicals/supervision at a Higher Education level is essential.
