Research at the Department of Molecular Biology includes several molecular biology areas such as microbiology, infection biology, cell biology, tumor biology and tissue biology as well as genetic model organisms.

Work tasks

The work includes to conduct independent research, PhD level education as well as undergraduate teaching in experimental and mechanistic infection biology with a focus on physiological/genetic medical bacteriology at the Department of Molecular Biology. Other tasks may also include administrative duties at the department and at the faculty. In order to participate in e.g. administrative education planning, it is expected that a non-Swedish-speaking lecturer will learn Swedish within a three-year period.

For applicants who are specialized trained doctors or dentists, a joint employment with Västerbotten County Council (VLL) can be considered, provided that VLL approves.

Eligibility and eligibility criteria for employment

For appointment as a university lecturer the applicant must have pedagogic competence and hold a Ph.D. degree or have equivalent scientific competence.

The position holder must have solid competence within the subject field and experience of research and supervision of postgraduate students within the field of experimental and mechanistic Infection Biology with a focus on physiological/genetic medical bacteriology and is expected to continue such activities.

When assessing for the appointment as university lecturer, the degree of ability required for employment shall apply. The assessment of pedagogic skills should be given equal attention as other qualifying conditions. In addition, clinical skill, administrative skill, skills required to develop activities and be a leader, ability to interact with the surrounding community and to inform about research and development is taken into account.

Weighting of assessment criteria

The weighting of merits will be as follows: scientific skill (3), educational skill (1). In addition, the degree of administrative skill, skills required to develop activities and be a leader, ability to interact with the surrounding community, and to inform about research and development (1).

Basis for assessment

In assessing scientific skill, an emphasis will be placed on independent research in experimental and mechanistic infection biology with a focus on physiological/genetic medical bacteriology, as well as the timeliness, quality and originality of the research efforts. Moreover, the ability to independently plan and lead research and postgraduate education will be assessed, with emphasis work within experimental and mechanistic infection biology with a focus on physiological/genetic medical bacteriology which is published in internationally well renowned scientific journals. Record of obtaining research funding in national and/or international competition is also regarded as important. Documented experience of molecular biology methods to address issues in infection biology is a requirement.

In assessing educational skill, an emphasis will be placed on a documented ability to teach in the subject area of infection biology at the bachelor’s level, master’s level and PhD level. Documented abilities to plan, implement and evaluate teaching, supervision and examination at the undergraduate level is a merit.

In assessing administrative skill, an emphasis will be placed on an ability to lead and develop activities and staff, and this refers to a documented ability to lead and initiate research activities, a demonstrated ability to lead, plan and implement university education at the basic level, and an ability to interact with the surrounding community.

Clinical skill is demonstrated by current clinical experience and documented good clinical competence.
