The department of molecular biology is looking for a first research assistant. The position is available starting 1st February 2018 for 2 years.
We offer a scientifically stimulating environment provided by the Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS), Department of Molecular Biology, Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (UCMR) at Umeå University and the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. The successful candidate will interact with researchers from different fields and with varied scientific and technical expertise. The research project involves investigation of translational regulation ribosome profiling, a deep-sequencing-based technique providing high-definition snapshot of cellular translational state (Ingolia 2009).
The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD exam within biomedical technology. The successful candidate is also expected to have hands-on expertise in deep sequencing approaches, preferably in RNA-Seq/ribosome profiling; RNA biochemistry, preferably in translation; microbiology, preferably yeast genetics. Expertise in bioinformatics is beneficial for more efficient troubleshooting of the currently set up data analysis pipeline. Good skills in English, both written and spoken are a necessity.
