Postdoc Position: Multigrain X-ray Diffraction and Image Analysis for use in High Pressure Research, DTU, Denmark: Applications are invited for an 18-month Postdoc position at the Department of Physics at DTU, Technical University of Denmark. The applicant will work on data analysis of high-pressure x-ray diffraction data of minerals.

DTU is collaborating with the geoscientists at University Bayreuth and the spin out company Xnovo Technologies to generate software for analysing x-ray diffraction data from samples under extreme pressures. A new crystallographic approach is applied, multigrain crystallography. The applicant will be part of the 3D imaging center at DTU. Other activities at the center include programs on x-ray and neutron instrumentation and facilities, materials science applications, a regional data analysis center, and an industry portal.

Responsibilities and tasks
The applicant will be responsible for developing the software for multigrain crystallography. Subsequently he/she will collaborate with the geoscientists to determine phases from a pile of existing data, which cannot be treated by existing tools. Participation in synchrotron based experiments exploiting the new software is also foreseen.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), preferably in a physics, chemistry, applied mathematics or a materials science-related discipline. Further qualifications:

  • Skills within scientific computing and image analysis
  • Knowledge of x-ray crystallography
  • Self-motivation in scientific research
  • Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken

Previous experience with analyzing x-ray diffraction data is seen as plus.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The workplace will be at DTU Lyngby Campus but with extended stays at ESRF.
