Software Engineer: Center for Biosustainability, DTU, Denmark: We seek a talented and enthusiastic software engineer to develop experimental data processing methods and web user interfaces for our software platform supporting the genetic engineering of microbial strains.

The job
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB) is an independent research unit at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) that conducts research on the development of microbial “cell factories” for chemical and therapeutic protein production.

You will join the Software Engineering & Applications group of our Compuational Biology unit. Your role will be to develop experimental data processing methods in C/C++ and Python as well as to develop web user interfaces in TypeScript to make the software accessible to our scientists.

As a software engineer joining our team you will develop new features together with other software engineers and with the input of our researchers. You should have a cooperative nature and be willing to nurture your own talents and those of your teammates.

Primary areas of responsibility

  • Develop data processing methods in C/C++ and Python
  • Develop user interfaces, visualizations and web services
  • Communicate with researchers and other developers to collect requirements and jointly create and improve components of the platform
  • Develop, collaborate on, and deploy web services using version control, continuous integration and Docker

Our expectations of you
A degree in Computer Science or similar or equivalent work experience in software engineering is required. In addition, you should have the following qualifications:

  • Able to write high quality, structured, and maintainable code
  • Demonstrable experience developing single-page web applications using modern JavaScript libraries or frameworks
  • Experience at developing machine learning methods and other data processing algorithms
  • Knowledge of C, C++ and Python
  • Competent at writing helpful documentation and appropriate unit tests
  • Good interpersonal skills — able to work with technical and scientific staff with different roles and professional backgrounds and willingness to learn from others

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
